Friday math movie: Time to re-design medical data

This week we have 2 related videos about how patient input can have profound medical outcomes.

In Thomas Goetz: Its time to redesign medical data, the first half talks about how personalized information can have the most effect on improving peoples health habits. The second half is about how best to present that information (visually, of course).

We should be teaching this kind of thing in schools knowing how to visually present data in a meaningful way is an important 21st century skill.

From the video blurb:

Thomas Goetz: Its time to redesign medical data Your medical chart: its hard to access, impossible to read and full of information that could make you healthier if you just knew how to use it. At TEDMED, Thomas Goetz looks at medical data, making a bold call to redesign it and get more insight from it.

e-Patient Dave

Dave had a near-death experience and was written off by the doctors. By getting involved in a forum, he found out crucial information that managed to keep him alive. Its a powerful story.

Ed mentions 2 excellent online 3-D body presentations Visible Body and Googles Body Browser. They are superb.
