Aurora substitute teacher charged with sexual battery

From the Beacon Journal local news briefs:

An Aurora schools substitute teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy during the past school year.

Mary E. Schnell, 24, of Aurora, was indicted this week by a Portage County grand jury on two counts of felony sexual battery. She is free after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond.

According to Portage County sheriff’s officials, a joint investigation involving sheriff’s detectives and officers from Aurora and Streetsboro determined that Schnell met a 16-year-old student while working as a substitute teacher in the Aurora School District.

The relationship became sexual and an encounter followed in May and June in Mantua Township, reports said.
