USC football player charged with DUI

COLUMBIA – USC football player DeVonte Holloman was arrested at a safety checkpoint in Downtown Columbia Friday night.

The 20-year-old was charged with a DUI, according to South Carolina Department of Public Safety spokesman Sid Gaulden.

Gaulden said the checkpoint where Holloman was arrested was part of a crackdown on DUI’s and nighttime seat belt enforcement, called “Operation Downtown.”

It took place at the intersection of George Rogers Blvd and Bluff Road near Williams-Brice Stadium.

He said there were a total of 12 arrests made as a result of the checkpoint.

Holloman plays strong safety for the Gamecocks and is considered to be a starter in the upcoming season.

The junior played in 14 games last year.

USC has not released a statement on the incident.
