Before Work Begins, a Voyage Overseas

Hej, talar du engelska?

This June I will travel to Sweden with my sister and my friend Eva. We will begin in Stockholm and travel north to Östersund to visit Eva’s family. We may continue north to Jokkmokk and still need to determine some parts of the trip. Buying train tickets and finalizing housing options are the next steps in the planning process.

This trip occurs at a very important time in our lives. My family has known Eva and her family since we were both very young. Together we have celebrated Lucia Day and enjoyed Swedish meatballs. We always desired to travel to Sweden and experience the culture first-hand and did not have the opportunity until now. My sister will be graduating from high school this May, and starting university studies in the fall.

This summer is a great opportunity to spend time together before we both embark on new academic and professional adventures. I did not have the opportunity to study abroad during my time in college. While this trip will be shorter than a semester abroad, I will be spending a significant amount of time exploring the country. Not only will I learn more about Sweden, it will also be a chance to relax and reflect before the start of my career. I will be recharged and refreshed to dive into my consulting work.

With graduation only 10 weeks away, it is almost the end of senior year. Over the next few months we will buy our train tickets, and I will try to learn a few basic Swedish phrases. I still need to buy a camera and a backpack. My sister will graduate from high school and soon after we will meet Eva in Stockholm. The next few months are going to be a whirlwind.
