72 SC grads have 12 years of perfect attendance

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. — Twin seniors at Boiling Springs High School are among 72 South Carolina high school graduates who will be honored for 12 years of perfect attendance.

Alexis and Asante Dawkins will graduate Friday night.

The state Education Department says they have attended 2,160 consecutive school days. That’s a little shy of Cal Ripken Jr.’s 2,632 consecutive games played in Major League Baseball, but it’s more than the previous record of 2,130 held by Lou Gehrig.

The 72 superlatives are among about 44,000 seniors who will graduate from South Carolina high schools this year.

Since 1979, seniors with 12 years of perfect school attendance have been recognized by the state Education Department with certificates and congratulatory letters from the state education superintendent.
