How to Handle Parent-Child Separation Anxiety

It is expected for a parent and child to feel anxious after a separation is experienced between both the parent and the child. The anxiety may end up affecting both the child’s and the parents’ activities making the parent unproductive and the child very dull and isolated. However, there are several ways in which one can handle the anxiety involved. This ways have worked for many but if the anxiety is beyond normal one may require the help of an expert.

Some of the ways in which one can handle parent-child separation anxiety include. Let the child and yourself get used to the idea of getting separated. This can initially begin with having short periods of time spent away from each other. One is also encouraged to keep the distance of separation short initially.

BBCS trying to win a grant for a new playground

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Bishop Baraga Catholic School is attempting to build a new playground, but they need your help.

Part of Clorox’s Power a Bright Future campaign involves giving a grant of fifty thousand dollars to a school to replace playground equipment.

This is a nationwide search, and to win a school must receive the most votes.

“We’re asking for the support of the Upper Peninsula community. We feel that it would better all of our community as playgrounds and any type of infrastructure updates can only make the U.P. a better place,” said Melissa Wentarmini, president of the BBCS Parents Association.

They’ve raised about $5 thousand themselves.  However the cost of a new playground would be about $50 thousand.  The current playground is outdated and the wood is treated with arsenic.

You can vote for BBCS by texting “clorox3438″ to 44144.

Oklahoma seeks $60 million for pre-K programs

Competition for $500 million in Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge grants is fierce with 35 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico all applying this week for a share of the federal funds.

“The strong response from states shows there is a shared commitment to raising the bar on quality across early learning programs, including those serving low-income children who too often start kindergarten already behind their classmates,” Secretary for Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius said in a news release.

Early childhood education is an issue that cuts across both the U.S. Department of Education, which is overseeing the Race to the Top grant, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees billions in federal money spent on prekindergarten programs across the nation.

Oklahoma long has been considered a leader in early childhood education and was among the first states to fully fund all-day prekindergarten for 4-year-olds in public schools.
